My Current Project

My current (unfinished) project at school is to create an oil painting on a long and skinny canvas, using only primary colours and white, that represents an art movement (ie. Impressionism, modernism). We have to research our movement then make a presentation and painting about it that captures its essence. My movement is Rococo (it comes after baroque and before neoclassicism). Rococo was typically associated with mid 18th century France and often paintings portray rich people. Rococo is criticized as being very frivolous and meaningless because of this. Subjects are often portrayed as playful because Rococo was created to break away from the church-centred baroque art. Rococo is also known for being the end of the baroque period.

I used my cousins again as the subject and put them in a nature scene because many Rococo paintings are people in nature. I am still adding lots to the background and putting finishing touches on the girls but I think it has been pretty successful so far. I experimented a lot with using differnt colours in areas that were not that colour (putting red/pink in areas) because of a fortune accident that some red paint had gotten onto the trees and I liked the effect it had. I struggled a lot with the left face and I had to get my mom to help me find similar colours to the other face and talk me through painting it. I only have one more day to complete this painting so the final image will be posted soon.
