Hello and welcome to my art (and now film photography) blog/website! My name is Sophie and I’m a PNW artist and hobby film photographer.
I started this blog back in 9th grade – almost 10 years ago as I’m writing this – in anticipation that this would be an assignment for art class the following year. This blog changed looks so many times through high school and eventually was polished to present as part of my grade 12 art critique. And then I logged off for four years.

I went on to university and took one bad modern art class there. I never really painted much since high school, except the occasional birthday card or something. Instead, when the pandemic hit and I left campus for online classes, I took up sewing as a means of creative expression. I liked the practicality of creating something that I could wear. Plus, I had a bunch of fabric left from family members and family friends and I enjoyed creating a minimal-waste wardrobe.

Basically my art blog sat for years until I was bored enough after graduating into a terrible job market, spending all my money travelling, and being stuck at home that I decided to bring it to life again. This time with film photos that I took – another post-pandemic hobby of mine. And revamping this blog eventually led to me getting a job which led to me neglecting it again.
Finally, in the fall of 2025 I started painting again. It started gradually – I think with a birthday card – and then I decided to buy a sketchbook which sat basically empty for a few months. I painted a few more small paintings – in gouache- to add to my ever-growing gallery wall. And one day my friends wanted to get together to watercolour paint Christmas cards so I dug out my watercolour paints and discovered something crazy. I don’t hate watercolour painting?

I kept regularly painting in gouache, but I had scheduled my whole 2 weeks of vacation time to go to Japan (where I had plans to buy more art supplies even though my airline forbid paint for some reason, I still managed to bring it home). So my mom bought me a little travel palette. You’ll probably see lots of it on this blog. She thought I could use it for gouache but acrylic gouache doesn’t rehydrate well so I packed it with watercolours. And that’s when I painted one of my favourite paintings – a little postcard sized watercolour of my grandmas cabin. I’ve been painting almost daily ever since, in watercolour, gouache, and some acrylic.

It’s 2025 now and since I’ve been painting again I’ve decided to take this blog back to its roots. I hope you’ll follow along on this journey!
