The Last Roll of Film I’ll Shoot on my Suntone?

One of the first working cameras of my collection, I bought my Suntone 35mm focus free for $2.50 from a thrift store a few years back along with my Kodak Instamatic Trimlite 18. Since 35mm film is much easier to find in stores and quicker to get developed, this camera has been my go-to since I switched to a more sustainable option over disposable cameras.

Since I’ve bought it, my camera collection has expanded greatly. In the past year or two I’ve started searching for an SLR camera to give me room to expand my skills and get crisper images. After loading a fresh roll of film into my Suntone, I finally thrifted a working SLR, my Canon EOS Rebel SII, and my Suntone with its mostly unused film sat for a year.

And I completely forgot what I had on this roll – like one of my summer hikes up Blackcomb mountain. These shots are some of my favourite from this roll and makes me remember why I do love this camera, despite its tendency for light leaks and lack of focus, sometimes it all comes together for a great photo. Not to mention how much lighter it was to carry than my SLR camera!

Every so often I’d remember this camera still has film and take it with me to use up the remaining frames. It came on a few winter adventures to Salt Spring Island.

And then joined in on a sunset beach walk. I didn’t think there would be enough light for this shot to work but it turned out so perfect.

And then took it to a (rainy) spring parade.

I’m testing out another point and shoot that I thrifted, so I might be giving this away to a friend. Either way, just like I’ve been recently, I won’t be using this one as much as my Canon or Kodak, so it’ll probably be the last roll I shoot for a while.
