Being born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, local landscapes of mountains and the coastline heavily influence and inspire my art. Working primarily in watercolour, Gouache, acrylic, and, more recently, pastels, I aim to evoke a sense of nostalgia and longing for adventure, inviting viewers to connect with the natural world and the simplicity of life in nature, reminding us of the importance of preserving our connection with nature. All my artwork is created by me, a real human, with no artificial assistance.
I was a dedicated artist all through high school, but the busyness of life afterwards put an end to my practice. For about seven years I hardly touched a paint brush. I found other creative outlets in textiles and film photography, and it was my love for film photography that helped me to return to painting in 2024, reminding me again of how to view my surroundings from an artistic lens.
Taking a break from visual art gave me the opportunity to explore and find my voice as an artist, something I struggled to do as a teen when I was more focused on precision and realism. Instead of making art for arts sake, I’m making it because I have something I want to share and say and want to find new ways of expressing it. It also gave me the chance to try watercolour and pastel, mediums that I hated before because I liked mediums that I had full control over. Now I find myself enjoying visible brushstrokes and reaching for purple when I’m painting forests.
While much of my daily practice is on a smaller scale, I’ve also enjoyed assisting with several large scale mural projects and look forward to leading my own mural projects in future.
