Whidbey Island Roadtrip on Film

My first big outing with my new film camera (Canon EOS SII) was bringing it along on my annual road / camping trip. This time I decided to experiment with using different film stocks.

The first film stock I used was Harman Phoenix 200 and the London Drugs film lab thought it was black and white film cause the negatives are a weird purple colour and scanned it in black and white. Thankfully after spiralling thinking all my photos are ruined I realized it was just the scans that were wrong and the film was developed as colour film. But I did like how some of the photos looked in black and white.

I had to adjust some of the colours with this film stock, especially when they were photos of people. It’s veryyy saturated and often really heavy on the reds and oranges and the contrast can be a little strange. Even though I didn’t love it at first, I’ve grown to like the retro VHS look of some of the photos.

And then I brought along a second roll – Lomography Colour ‘92 400. This one I liked a lot more, although I didn’t use it all on this trip and I feel like the film went down in quality when I left it in my camera for a while (I’ll post some of those later). I would shoot with this again though.

And I had to bring along a second camera too – my little Kodak Instamatic Trimlite 18 – with Lomography Tiger 200. Nothing could ever make me hate this camera and film. Except maybe for the fact that the only store I can buy Lomography film at – the only brand that makes 110 film – always seems to be sold out.

Also, London Drugs – the only place I’ve found that develops 110 film – has been cropping my recent 110 photos very strangely. I would’ve complained but I’ve sent too many emails to their customer service recently.

My favourite from this roll
